Venus Optics has introduced its new Laowa 105mm f / 2 Smooth Trans Focus (STF) lens, nicknamed the "Bokeh Dreamer" for its unique bokeh.
The full-format manual lens is equipped with a special "apodizing member" (APD) designed for creamy smooth bokeh while maintaining the sharpness of the drawing. The APD element is more efficient towards the edges, which allows you to gradually reduce the amount of transmitted light towards the perimeter with a soft bokeh at the edge of the image.
The lens is designed with two apertures. One of them is a 14-blade perfectly circular aperture without aperture steps, which together with the apodizing member creates a high-quality bokeh. The second aperture is a standard 8-blade aperture, which is used to set the actual effective aperture (aperture value setting) and the resulting depth of field.
The lens is composed of 11 elements in 8 groups, designed with optical elements eliminating chromatic aberration, all in a truly sturdy metal body. The measured MTF curves show high sharpness and contrast in the whole image area.
