"Digital compact (point & shoot) cameras have had an incredible battle with the ubiquitous phones in the last few years. How best to describe the outcome of the battle? The king is dead, long live the king! A third party with a different approach has entered the manufacturers' competition and once again the customer has won, or should we say the "technocrat" customer. Gone were the million and one colour versions of the same camera, the same technology dressed up over and over again for several years, or those cameras that had no added value against the phone. If the traditional manufacturers wanted to succeed they needed to clearly define where they were strong and how they could succeed in the compact segment.
