The upper and lower parts have a 1/4 "metal thread (1x inner and 1x outer). The holding force depends on the length and diameter of the neck. Measurements showed approximately twice the holding force of the flexible metal arms. 

The "L" version is suitable for small flashes, compact cameras, up to a weight of approx. 500g
The "XL" version is suitable for larger flashes, lights, cameras,  up to a weight of approx. 800g
