The Nikon HB-71 bayonet lens hood is compatible with the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR lens. The lens hood is primarily designed to prevent unwanted side light from entering the lens by widening and shading the end of the lens. The special lens hood is designed to precisely match the angle of view of the lens for which it was designed. Since the end of the lens is extended when the lens hood is used, additional protection is also provided against accidental impacts to the front of the lens.
